Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its result. We do not keep a separate log or stored copy of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
Messages sent by email may be retained so our team can answer them. They are not disclosed outside the organization unless a valid legal duty requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the servers may record routine technical information about that visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when one is supplied
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They help show, in aggregate, which Crawford County record pages receive visits and where sessions end. Analytics services assist with that measurement. A browser can reject cookies, though blocking them may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Sending a submitted search to the selected outside provider
- Finding and correcting performance or technical faults
- Understanding which reference pages visitors use
- Operating, securing, and improving the website
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Crawford County Criminal History does not build, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It describes how to reach the Crawford County Sheriff, the Iowa District Court, the Iowa Department of Public Safety's Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. Iowa Code chapter 22 governs access to public records, while chapter 692 controls dissemination of Iowa criminal-history data. Those official records remain with their government custodians. We do not turn visitor data into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles and are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted through one is covered by that company's privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices. We do not control those policies. Review the provider's policy before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Crawford County Sheriff, Iowa Judicial Branch, Iowa DCI, legal resources, and outside search tools. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before submitting personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their systems, not ours, conduct that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be received by:
- Advertising networks that serve placements
- Analytics providers that measure use and performance
- Search providers that process a query submitted to them
- A government body or law-enforcement agency acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for the information collected. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from a person under 18. If such information is identified, it will be removed.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary with the law that applies where a visitor lives. Iowa Code chapter 22 addresses government public records, and Iowa Code chapter 692 addresses state criminal-history data; neither turns this private resource into the custodian of Crawford County government files. For information held directly by us, a visitor may:
- Object to certain forms of processing where applicable
- Request deletion of personal information we hold
- Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
- Request a copy of personal information we maintain
